'Coffee with a Cop' brings police, community together

Posted

Boise Police Officers took a break from duty Wednesday, Oct. 11, to have a cup of Joe with their neighbors.

Community members had the opportunity to sit down with officers and discuss issues on a more personal level.

Officers say the annual event, hosted at Moxie Java, is one of their favorites because it allows the community to get to know them behind the badge.

"The success of any police department depends on our ability to interact with the community and to have them be able to voice their concerns with us," said Sgt. Matt Bryngelson. "They may not have the opportunity to do that when we're driving from call to call out on the street. This gives people the opportunity to sit down, have coffee with us, and talk about what may be going on in their neighborhood."

Officers say they hope this event helps bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.

And if you missed the event, be on the look out -- the department does them frequently.
