An Ada County Sheriff's deputy shot at a suspect following a short chase near Lake Hazel Road around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning.   According to a news release, deputies were called to the scene in the 10000 block of West Jerry Peak Street around 4:14 a.m. to investigate a report of a fight.

When deputies arrived on scene, they determined Michael Jockumsen, 35, was involved in the incident.  Deputies say Jockumsen was sitting in a car and when they asked him to get out of the vehicle, he took off instead.

According to deputies, two followed Jockumsen through several neighborhood streets until Jockumsen lost control of the Explorer and spun out on South Solar Way.  When deputies attempted to block the Explorer in, the vehicles collided.  Deputies say that's when they saw Jockumsen reach down in the vehicle as if looking for something and one deputy fired two shots at the SUV.  According to investigators, Jockumsen then turned off the vehicle and surrendered.

Jockumsen was transported to the hospital for evaluation and then taken to jail on charges of felony eluding and misdemeanor resisting arrest and DUI.  He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

The Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the incident.  The Boise Police Department is taking the lead in the investigation.
