The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has issued a warning about dangerous algae near Hells Canyon Dam .
Recent water samples taken ten miles north of Oxbow to Hells Canyon Dam indicate high concentrations of blue-green algae that are harmful to people, pets, and livestock.The blooms are generally green, or blue-green, and may form thick mats along shorelines, with an unpleasant odor.
Health officials urge people to stay out of the water and prevent pets from drinking it.
