Idahoans can help dogs and cats displaced by Hurricane Harvey

Idahoans can help the Idaho Humane Society make room for pets displaced by Hurricane Harvey by adopting dogs and cats now.

"Adoptions are huge because our ability to help these other shelters is really based on the space we have in our own facility," Idaho Humane Society Spokesperson Allison Maier, said.

The humane society is expecting up to 50 animals from a shelter in Texas to arrive during the first week of Oct.

Maier says if Treasure Valley residents are thinking of adding a new member to their family, now is a great time to do it.

The animals arriving from Texas will have to be checked out before they're ready for adoption, but updates will be posted on the IHS Facebook page

Some of the animals could be ready to make their local debut at the See Spot Walk fundraiser in on Oct 7.
