A Nampa man drowned at Lake Lowell Sunday evening.

About 8:05 p.m., Canyon County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol deputies were notified of a potential drowning at Lake Lowell in Nampa. Deputies were informed that a 19-year-old man had disappeared under the water while swimming near the Upper Dam.

When deputies arrived on the scene, a search was already underway by people who were at the location where the man was last seen in the water.

A few minutes later, the man’s body was located and removed from the water.

Sheriff’s deputies, Canyon County paramedics, and the Nampa Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as Leston L. Blanco of Nampa.

“Witnesses told deputies the man had been swimming with friends when he began to struggle and went under the water.
He was not wearing a life vest at the time,” said Canyon Coun5ty spokesman Joe Decker in a news release.

Officials encourage people to always wear a life vest and use extra caution when in and around waterways.
