4 suspects charged with first degree murder

Police say the man found naked and beaten near Lake Lowell Friday morning has died from his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Steven E. Nelson of Nampa.

According to Canyon County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Dana Maxfield, deputies were dispatched to the Gotts Point area near Lake Lowell about 5:45 a.m. this morning to investigate a report of a robbery.

The victim told deputies he had been robbed and beaten by an “unknown suspect.”

Tonight, the Canyon County Sheriff's Office has taken four suspects into custody in connection with the incident.

22-year-old Kelly B. Schneider of Nampa, 21-year-old Kevin R. Tracy of Nampa, 28-year-old Jayson C. Woods of Nampa, and 23-year-old Daniel A. Henkel of Caldwell are all facing charges for first degree murder and robbery. Schneider is also facing a charge for Grand Theft.

“The suspect took the victim’s clothing, his personal effects, and his vehicle. All of the victim’s worldly possessions are gone. Everything,” Maxfield said. He did not elaborate as to why the victim was in the Lake Lowell area.

After the attack, the victim was able to walk to a nearby residence. A person at the residence then called 9-1-1.

Shortly before  9 a.m. Friday, the Sheriff’s Office reported locating the victim’s car – a white 2006 Chevrolet Impala.

The investigation remains ongoing as the Sheriff's Office continues to follow up on additional tips and information.
