A Peterbilt semi hauling potatoes and heading west on Interstate 84 caught fire about 7 a.m. Tuesday, prompting the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department to close one lane of the freeway for about an a hour.
According to Lt. Robert Wade, preliminary reports say one of the trailer’s tires blew out, apparently igniting the fire.
The driver was able to pull onto the shoulder of the freeway and detach the cab from the trailer. He pulled the cab about 100 yards ahead of the blaze.
The driver did not sustain any injuries.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
The incident happened near milepost 104, between Mountain Home and Hammett.
