Senate kills Gov. Otter's adult scholarship bill

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The Idaho Senate has killed Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's $5 million proposal to create scholarships for adult students with some college credits to return and finish their undergraduate degrees.

Senate lawmakers voted 17-16 Tuesday evening to reject the scholarship which would have helped support adult students returning to public colleges after an absence of at least three years.

The legislation would have allowed applicants to seek out up to $3,000 per academic year for up to eight consecutive semesters.
