MERIDIAN, Idaho — People from across the Treasure Valley met up in Meridian Saturday morning to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention.

The annual Out of the Darkness Walk encourages loved ones to share stories of family and friends lost to suicide, while connecting the community with resources for suicide prevention.

"So many people will tell us it’s the first time that they felt like they weren’t alone," area director for AFSP Ryan Price said. "So having a space where people with similar and shared experiences can come together really helps individuals along that path of hope and healing."

All money raised benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to invest in research, educational programs, and support for survivors of suicide loss.

Saturday's walk in the Treasure Valley raised more than $54,000.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention hopes to lower the annual suicide rate by 20% by 2025.
