BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Walk to Defeat ALS took over Esther Simplot park on Saturday with survivors, caregivers and advocates taking part in a 2.5 mile walk to raise awareness about the disease.
Darla Burge, who's husband has been diagnosed with ALS, says, "This little community and these little people who are all here, we all can kind of help them get that first step to get going, and then you realize we're not alone and then pretty soon you have a family, and that's the best thing about it, we have met so many wonderful people."
ALS is a neuro-degenerative muscular disease that eventually affects a person's ability to breath, eat, move and swallow.
All of the proceeds from the event went to help fund services for people living with ALS in the Treasure Valley, by covering costs for group therapy, equipment rentals and clinic referrals.
