Getting Mental Health First Aid Certified

Posted

Just like getting certified in CPR to assist someone with constricted airways, professionals want people to know that they can get certified in Mental Health First Aid to assist those experiencing a mental health crisis.

Many who struggle with mental health challenges are often unable to communicate how they are feeling or ask for help.

Getting this certification can train people how to properly respond to those in need.

Be it someone having a mental health crisis, or diagnosed with a mental health disorder, learning the techniques to properly address the situation and providing consistent comfort can lead to making the connection for necessary care.

Idaho News 6 Matt Sizemore talks with professionals Tasha Howard, Family and Consumer Health Science educator at U of I, and Kelley Knowles, Senior Training Specialist for Optum Idaho, about the importance of this certification and how it may lead to saving someone's life.
