DONNELLY, Idaho — Over the weekend hundreds of people braved the weather and hiked, biked, and ran 15 miles up the tamarack mountain, for mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Top of Tamarack is a race that honors those who lost the battle with mental health and those who are still here with us today.

Organized by Gr8ter, a local non-profit organization, the goal of the event is to compete against one's own self by setting a difficult goal and then achieving it, all while spreading awareness for mental health struggles.

Kylee Wiscombe, founder and President of Gr8ter, says, “The turnout was incredible we were not expecting, we sold out 2 weeks before the event, which is phenomenal so next year, we are going to make it bigger and better."

Participants who hiked the summit received at least seven special tokens as a reminder to push forward and achieve your goals.

Wiscombe says, “We all have struggles and we're all climbing mountains and whether their literal like it was today or there figurative whether it's a struggle in your life we're all climbing those, and we want you to step forward keep stepping because the pain that you're in is temporary."

Top of Tamarack also honors those who have lost their lives to suicide and mental health battles.
