HAILEY, Idaho — A broken water main in Hailey has officials telling some residents to boil their water or use bottled water until water quality test results come back.
The city says the water main broke around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, on Woodside Blvd. near Snowbank Drive.
The break led to a drop in pressure, which may have allowed contaminants to enter the system.
The City of Hailey and the Idaho DEQ are advising residents of South Woodside to boil their water for the next 48 to 72 hours. The city says it must return two clean tests, taken 24 hours apart, before it can lift its boil-water advisory.
The city says boiling water for one minute should remove any possible risks and render the water potable. It adds that you can improve the flat taste of the water by sloshing it around to get air into it, by letting it sit for a while or by adding a pinch of salt.
