NAMPA — As Six On Your Side previously reported, leaders in Canyon County housing programs have said they're seeing more demand for their services than ever due to the affordable housing crisis. To address the rising issue, The City of Nampa welcomed the Mercy Creek Apartments on Wednesday, September, 4th, 2019. It's a 50 unit complex, specifically for seniors or people 55 and older.

Developed by Galena Opportunity Fund, the project has been in the works for a couple years and the units were at capacity within 30 days of opening. The vast majority of units are rent restricted. The project is a result of a partnership by City of Nampa with the Idaho Housing and Finance Association, The Housing Company, and others.

"The senior residents that are already living here, I think have been welcomed into the neighborhood and are already integrating with the folks who are already here," said Bill Truax, president, Galena Opportunity Fund.

The units are on the site of the historic Mercy Hospital that burned down and was demolished. Mercy Creek is one of three complexes now open or being developed in Nampa. Colorado Gardens apartments opened in December of 2019 on South Elder Street and the Sky Ridge Apartments on East Hawaii Street is currently under development.
