BOISE, Idaho — A house fire near Table Rock Road on Tuesday morning destroyed one home — fortunately, no one was inside at the time of the fire, according to witnesses on the scene.
Although you can’t see much from the front of the house, the fire burned through the home’s kitchen and living room, decimating the backside of the residence.
Boise Fire responded around 4:30 a.m. and spent six hours on the scene securing the area and putting out flames.
Idaho News 6 spoke to a neighbor who lives across the street from the house that burned. She is thankful no one got hurt and says the homeowners are currently on vacation in Scotland.
Restoration crews and family friends are working to remove the family’s belongings as cleanup efforts get underway.
Kurtiss Nielsen, project manager with Master Restoration, said, “Generally, we'll meet with the homeowner, go over our process of keeping everything secured, and then go from there as far as putting things back together, doing smoke remediation and stuff of that sort. But the very first step is boarding it up and securing the property.”
After Boise Fire's investigation, they found that the fire was caused by an extension cord on the backyard patio.
The neighbor who lives across the street tells me she hopes this serves as a reminder to let neighbors know when you’re out of town with a way to contact you in case of an emergency.
The Boise Fire Department said that the fire was fairly large, but it has since been controlled.
