EAGLE, Idaho — A former Eagle High School teacher and coach is facing five felony charges, including rape, sexual battery committed by lewd or lascivious conduct with a minor 16 or 17 years of age, sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of burglary.
Jeff Lewis Ranstrom was booked into Ada County Jail just before 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. He made his initial appearance in court Thursday, where a judge set his bond at half a million dollars.
A Sheriff's Office spokesman says Ranstrom had a lengthy sexual relationship with a teenage girl. Detectives began their investigation last week after they received a tip.
West Ada spokesperson Eric Exline tells 6 On Your Side that Ranstrom, who is also an Eagle High alumni, was a social studies teacher and head boys basketball coach at the school. Exline added that Ranstrom resigned from both positions on September 23.
Ranstrom is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on October 14.
