BOISE, Idaho — Eighteen-year-old University of Idaho business student John Myers returned to his alma mater -– the Dennis Tech Educational Center in Boise this morning. This past summer, Myers won a national Gold Medal in Automotive Service Technology at the SkillsUSA Championships in Kentucky. His achievement not only earned him a Gold Medal but valuable learning tools for his former school to utilize. One of the tools aquired is a 2018 Chevy Malibu for students to work on in their automotive classes.
Monday was Myers’ first visit back to the Dennis Technical Education Center since winning this national competition. The alum spoke to DTEC students about his experience competing nationally and the advantages of taking career and technical education classes and how taking them is has helped him achieve success at a young age.
Educators say there is a strong national push to raise awareness about the value and importance of career and technical education to the health of our state and national economies, as well as the opportunities for students who pursue such careers.
