'Shop With a Cop' to help with school supplies

Posted

Believe it or not, it’s almost time for kids to head back to school, but affording school supplies for the year can be a burden.

At today’s ’Shop With a Cop,’ 65 kids hung out with Canyon County deputies and then boarded a school bus to Walmart. Each kid received $200 for backpacks, pencils and other school supplies. Law enforcement specifically chose the kids for good behavior or economic need.

"We really need to do everything we can, it's our responsibility as law enforcement officers to make sure that they have every opportunity to succeed in life, “ said Cpl. Gilbert Longoria.

Canyon County community members and businesses donated money for the shopping spree. The sheriff’s department also hosts a ‘Shop With a Cop’ Christmas event later in the year.
