24 collisions prompt ITD to change Eagle Road traffic pattern

Drivers in Meridian will see a new traffic pattern on Eagle Road north of Fairview Avenue starting Wednesday, after reports of 24 collisions in that area.

The new traffic pattern is “designed to enhance safety and mobility,” said Idaho Transportation Department spokesman Jennifer Gonzalez.

ITD has extended the third through lane on northbound Eagle Road halfway between River Valley Road and Ustick Road. The new traffic pattern will be fully implemented Wednesday night.

“The southbound Eagle Road median access to Village Drive (by the Village at Meridian) has been restricted due to the high number of head-on or angle-turning collisions at this location since 2012,” Gonzalez stated. “This year alone, 24 crashes have occurred. Traffic control devices and new striping are already in place. New signs also indicate the traffic pattern change.”
