NAMPA — The staff at KIVI 6 On Your Side received a special notification on Tuesday; for the first time in it's 45-year history the station has won an Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association.

The award comes in the category of "News Documentary" for the hour-long special "Finding Hope: Idaho's Opioid Crisis," which aired on December 9, 2018. The special was hosted by Karen Lehr and Michelle Edmonds and was produced by Karen Lehr.

Starting in April of 2018, KIVI 6 On Your Side began a deep dive into the scourge of opioid addiction in Idaho and the Treasure Valley. For the last year, the KIVI team has talked with stakeholders in recovery, former and current addicts, counselors and experts. The effect of the work done in the "Finding Hope" franchise goes far beyond any hardware, but the first Murrow award for the station helps shine a light on the investigative work of the KIVI team.
