BOISE, Idaho — A 7-year-old boy who was hospitalized after he was hit by a pickup truck while ride a bike in south Boise Thursday night has died. The Ada County Coroner's Office said Eduard Prokophcuk died from blunt force trauma associated with the crash.
Eduard was riding his bike on the north side of West Amity Road, east of Cloverdale Road, before 7:30 Thursday night when he was hit by a pickup truck traveling west on Amity.
Two other boys, both under the age of 10, were also riding their bikes on the side of Amity. One received minor injuries in the crash, but it is not clear if the truck hit his bike as well, or if the other bike hit his bike. The third boy was not injured in the crash.
The driver of the pickup, an 18-year-old man, stopped immediately and went back to the scene of the crash. When deputies arrived, the driver was with Prokophcuk. Paramedics arrived and took Prokophcuk to a local hospital. The boy died early Friday evening, according to the coroner report.
A witness told investigators when the pickup hit the bike, the force threw Prokophcuk from the bike into a fence near the side of the road. The pickup driver told investigators he swerved to avoid something in the road just before the crash.
The driver fully cooperated with investigators at the scene. No charges or citations have been issued at this time. The crash is still under investigation.
