The Ada County Highway District opened and dedicated the Plaza Drive Extension in Eagle Wednesday morning.
“The new portion of roadway connects the existing portion of Plaza Drive -- off State Street -- to 2nd Street,” said ACHD spokesperson Nicole DuBois. “A multi-use path was built on the north side of Plaza Drive, and bike lanes were added. The Plaza Drive and 2nd Street intersection is now an all-way stop.”
The City of Eagle provided landscaping for the project.
Eagle city leaders made the Plaza Drive Extension a top priority back in 2011, when it developed the Downtown Eagle Plan -- which identified downtown Eagle street improvements.
“Eagle requested that the project be advanced in priority, and construction on the extension began in May -- a year earlier than originally planned,” DuBois stated.
The extension gives drivers an alternate route to State Street to help improve connectivity and traffic circulation, officials said.
