BOISE, Idaho — Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts canceled a scheduled meeting with Black Lives Matter Boise after an Instagram post from the organization.
According to a Facebook post from the Prosecutor's Office, Bennett agreed last month to meet with the group July 24 after the group asked to meet to open lines of communication. BLM Boise shared a photo of Salt Lake County Prosecutor's Office vandalized with the statement, "We meet w/ @ada_county Prosecutor Jan Bennetts tomorrow. We will take action, if action is not taken."
"We agreed to meet in good faith because as members of the community and in our roles as representatives thereof, we want to hear the views and voices of community members. However, we cannot allow our professional decisions to be the result of bullying or intimidation," the post reads. "Therefore, we are canceling the meeting today."
In response to the meeting cancelation, BLM Boise is calling for Bennetts' resignation.
"We had a meeting with Jan Bennetts scheduled (since June) for today, our intention was to discuss the decades of ...that goes against her methodological approach to crime & criminality. Bennetts is now refusing to meet with BLM Boise. Our initial request; stop prosecuting small marijuana possession charges & build on dialogue from there about the decriminalization of other illicit drugs."
