Ada County reports highest single-day total of coronavirus cases since pandemic began

Boise-based Central District Health reported 49 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ada County all of last week.

That number ballooned by 410% this week, with the state’s most populous county adding 250 confirmed cases of the coronavirus

The recent rise in Ada County cases peaked with a single-day high of 68 cases on Saturday, increasing the county’s total to a state-leading 1,077 cases. The previous most in a single day was 63 cases on both April 2 and April 4.

Using data from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and Eastern Idaho Public Health, there were 117 confirmed cases added statewide Saturday. It is the third-largest total in a single day since the pandemic began and the third consecutive day with 100 or more cases. Idaho’s total cases now sits at 3,585.

The other counties reporting new cases Saturday were Blaine (1 new, 508 total), Bonner (1 new, 12 total), Bonneville (2 new, 62 total), Canyon (22 new, 392 total), Cassia (3 new, 144 total), Elmore (2 new, 38 total), Gem (1 new, 14 total), Gooding (1 new, 51 total), Kootenai (7 new, 122 total), Minidoka (1 new, 96 total), Owyhee (3 new, 15 total) and Twin Falls (5 new, 424 total).

There are 421 “probable cases” in the state, an increase of 16 from Friday. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare reports that 3,305 cases are “presumed recovered.”

Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there have been 283 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 101 admissions to the ICU and 406 health care workers who have been infected. The hospital and health care numbers are based on cases with completed investigations into contacts, not the full number of positives.

Testing totals: At the end of the day Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 72,547 tests had been completed statewide. About 4.9% of those have been positive for COVID-19.
