CANYON COUNTY, Idaho — Some Treasure Valley students will have a better start to the school year, thanks to the police. The Canyon County Sheriff's Office hosted the annual back to school Shop With A Cop program this morning.
The program is similar to the Christmas Shop With A Cop program, only the kids shopped for school supplies, backpacks, shoes and other items. Officers and organizers realize times are tough and can be stressful, but no kid should have to worry about these kinds of basics.
"This is really intrinsic to these officers men and women alike, that they understand that these kids just need someone to talk to and someone to interact with and have a good role model," said Sheriff Kieran Donahue. "Also that you don’t have to be afraid of law enforcement. You don’t have to be afraid of cops.”
Around 50 kids participated in the program and each kid had around $200 to spend. Money was raised through donations from the Canyon County Fraternal Order of Police and the Canyon County Community.
