Baby born in hospital parking lot

The birth of a child is always an exciting time but one Nampa couple brought their baby into the world outside the hospital.

Just yards away from the emergency room at St. Luke’s Meridian, one of the Treasure Valley's newest residents decided he couldn't wait and was born inside the car. Eric and Natalie Alanis had spent months planning the birth of their first-born. When Natalie's water broke Wednesday morning, Eric leapt into action.

But it wasn't fast enough for the baby.

As the couple pulled into St. Luke's the time came to deliver.

"She was in the front seat, the passenger seat of the car and I had to stop,” recounts Eric. “I went around to her side and I could see the baby. She gave her final push and the baby came out and I caught it and put it on her lap. We didn't know the sex of the baby up until that point so I told her we had a little boy and things are pretty good."

Mother and child were brought into the hospital afterwards and are doing just fine. The Alanis’s are happy to welcome little Kenny into the world...and take a well-deserved nap.
