BOISE, Idaho — Legislation to create a committee to monitor how federal laws and regulations impact Idaho's sovereignty has passed the House and is headed to the Senate.
The House voted 47-20 on Friday to approve the plan to create the Committee on Federalism put forward by Republican Rep. Jason Monks.
Monks says the committee will look on an array of federal issues and is scheduled to end its work in two years unless lawmakers opt to keep the committee going.
Those opposed say the cost of the committee will be far more than the estimated $10,000 to $15,000 because it can hire attorneys.
Those opposed also say that the executive branch and other parts of the Idaho government already do the work the committee would do.
