As everyone starts getting into the holiday spirit, Boise firefighters are kicking off their drive to gather toys for sick kids.

Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance at the firefighters' Toy Brigade event Saturday.

Toys and cash donations were dropped off in exchange for cookies and a chance to sit on Santa's lap.

Once collected, the toys will be delivered to the City of Light Women's Shelter, area children's hospitals and the Ronald McDonald House.

"The kids are in hospitals and are not able to celebrate Christmas at home," said Craig Martin, a Boise firefighter. "It's just to put a little smile on their face and sort of brighten their spirits."

This is the 8th year for the Boise firefighters' Toy Brigade, and items can still be dropped off through Dec.15 at any fire station or at city hall.

Last year, they were able to provide a gift for more than 200 children in the valley.
