BOISE, Idaho — The City of Boise and the Boise School District announced that Boise Kind, the collaborative initiative launched in 2018 to promote and enhance Boise’s generous, caring nature, will enter a new phase in its development under leadership from the Boise School District.

“From the day we launched this effort, my highest hope for Boise Kind was that it would be embraced and carried on by the community,” Mayor David Bieter said. “We’ve seen that happen across the entire city, but no one has embraced Boise Kind more than the Boise School District. With their leadership, Boise Kind will become even more firmly embedded in Boise’s culture. This is the best possible evolution of this program.”

“The Boise School District is thrilled to be able to continue this important effort,” Boise School District Superintendent Coby Dennis said. “Kindness is a key component in our mission to prepare students to be productive citizens. By taking the reins of Boise Kind, our students and teachers will be able to grow kindness throughout our schools and the entire community.”

With this new structure, the Boise School District will manage the Boise Kind Steering Committee, comprised of numerous individuals and organizations throughout the city, and oversee significant events, such as Boise Kind Day and other kindness initiatives. The City of Boise will remain an active member on the steering committee and would provide support as needed.

“As a proud Boise public schools parent, I’ve long admired the district’s commitment to reinforcing empathy and kindness in our classrooms, playgrounds and community,” Mayor-Elect Lauren McLean said. “I have no doubt that they will be good stewards of the Boise Kind initiative and I appreciate them championing this cause.”

Boise Kind was first announced by Mayor Bieter at his State of the City address in September 2018. The formal kick-off of Boise Kind took place at Treefort in March 2019, followed by the inaugural Boise Kind Day in June 2019. Over 1,500 people participated in Boise Kind Day activities.
