BOISE, Idaho — A man and woman from Medellin, Colombia have been arrested after Boise Police officers say they found some $6,700 in counterfeit bills in their possession.
Officers responded to fraud-in-progress call at a retail store on the 8300 block of Overland Road about 2:50 p.m. Monday.
“Store employees reported to police that a man had attempted to use a $100 bill that they believed to be fictitious,” said BPD spokesman Ryan Larrondo. “When officers arrived on scene, they located the suspect’s vehicle attempting to leave the parking lot. A traffic stop was conducted, and officers detained a man and woman who were inside the vehicle.”
Officers searched the vehicle and say they found 67 fictitious $100 bills in a hidden compartment.
BPD Financial Crimes Unit detectives took over the investigation and say they located evidence the suspects had come to Boise from Columbia with the intent of purchasing goods with the fake currency.
Juan D. Osorio Jarmilo, 45, is charged with criminal conspiracy and two counts of forgery.
Sandra Eugenia Del Pilar Villegas Castano, 51, was charged with criminal conspiracy and one count of forgery. All charges are felonies.
It is unclear if the two suspects are related.
“The suspects are also being investigated for similar crimes in neighboring cities,” Larrondo said.
