The Buck Fire, burning eight miles east of the Deadwood Reservoir in the Boise National Forest, has increased to about 780 acres -- as fire crews continue to battle the blaze.
“A Type 2 incident management team has been called in to manage the fire. Currently, the fire is staffed with approximately 150 firefighters, which includes five crews and six engines and the Boise Hot Shots. Several helicopters and airtankers are actively engaged in operations dropping retardant and evaluating the fire's perimeter and containment. More resources have been ordered,” said Boise National Forest spokeswoman Susan Blake.
At this time, no lives or property are threatened, she said. The smoke has not impacted area roads because of the fire's remote location.
The forest has issued an area closure at the junctions of County Road 579 and National Forest roads 582, 591, 510 and 563. All trails and roads within this area are closed for the purpose of protecting the public from hazards associated with the wildfire. The firefighter injured yesterday by a falling snag has been released from the hospital after receiving medical treatment for minor Injuries.
Fire crews from the Lowman Ranger District discovered the Buck Fire about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. When firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was estimated at 7.5 acres.
