CALDWELL, Idaho — A Caldwell man is in the Canyon County Jail after being charged with armed robbery and burglary by the Caldwell Police Department. Officers responded to the robbery call just after 12:00 p.m. on April 22 at a Jack in the Box on E. Ustick Road in Caldwell.
Joel Martinez, 40, reportedly took cash from the register after showing a knife and fled the area in a green passenger car. Several officers were already in the area due to an attempted robbery of a bank in Nampa just before the Jack in the Box robbery. In the bank incident, the suspect had also reportedly fled westbound on Caldwell Boulevard in a green passenger car.
A Caldwell Police patrol officer spotted the reported vehicle leaving the area of Jack in the Box and conducted a traffic stop less than a mile from the scene. Martinez was driving the vehicle and was taken into custody and interviewed by both Nampa and Caldwell Police investigators.
Officers found multiple items of evidence linked Martinez to both the robbery in Caldwell and the attempted robbery in Nampa. The Nampa Police Department is also investigating and more charges may follow.
