CALDWELL, Idaho — People who want to go shoot guns this weekend need to be aware that the George W. Nourse Gun Range south of Lake Lowell in Canyon County will be closed on Saturday from dawn to 3:30 p.m.
The Canyon County Sheriff's inmate labor detail will be working to clean up the range during that time.
The shooting range is very popular, it's a great amenity and it's free for people to practice shooting in a safe environment, the problem is it has become too popular.
The range has always relied on its patrons to police themselves and clean up after they are done shooting, however, that isn't working anymore because of the actions of a few people.
"People take the trash cans out there and blow them up it ruins it for everybody," said Barry Starratt who has been coming to the range for fifteen years and has seen how the range has grown. "You got to get here early in the morning if you want to shoot."
Nicki Schwend the director of Park, Cultural and Natural Resources in Canyon County told us that starting in February they will close the range on the last Thursday of every month from dawn to 3:30 for a monthly cleaning.
