NAMPA, Idaho — A number of local churches, businesses and charities are getting together to help the Nampa Food Pantry.

Part of north Nampa is known as the food desert, mainly because there are no grocery stores offering fruits, veggies or other healthy foods to those who live in the area. That's why the Good News Community Church has been running a food giveaway out of its parking lot.

The program has been so successful, the church now needs help. Other groups are pitching in to help the church build a big new food pantry. The local LDS Church has donated $100,000 to the project.

Officials say the new pantry should be up and running full time in about a month.
