MERIDIAN, Idaho — In an effort to keep more items out of the landfill, the City of Meridian is hosting the second annual community-wide Trash or Treasure event. The event will run from May 30 to May 31.
City residents can place unwanted items on the curb, then the public can stop by and look for any treasures. Examples include desks, weights, chairs or bicycles, to name a few.
“We are excited to bring back Trash or Treasure after a successful first year. Trash or Treasure gives residents an opportunity to re-purpose items they no longer need as they do some spring cleaning. It’s also an opportunity for our residents to search for treasures throughout Meridian. It’s a win-win,” said Tom Otte, Solid Waste Coordinator.
Residents planning to set out items on the curb should visit The Trash or Treasure website and mark their location on a map. Then citizens interested in looking for items can view the map and find the participating homes or neighborhoods.
Any items that do not get picked up during the weekend event can be donated. There is a contact list in the above website with a list of locations accepting donations at this time.
The Trash or Treasure event coincides with Republic Services’ Spring Clean-Up week, June 1-5. This way, items that are not picked up during Trash or Treasure, or donated, can be placed on the curb on trash day. Extra items set out during Spring Clean-Up must be bundled (4 feet max and 50 lbs. max).
Citizens with bulky items, such as furniture, need to make prior arrangements by signing up online or by noting it online when signing up for Trash or Treasure via the website above. For customers with a Monday collection day, please sign up by 2 pm on May 29. For those with collection days past Monday, please sign up at least 24 hours in advance.
Trash not allowed during Spring Clean-Up includes liquids, household hazardous waste and electronic waste such as phones and batteries. These items can be dropped off at Republic Services’ Transfer Station at 2130 W. Franklin Road, Meridian every Monday from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
