BOISE, Idaho — Zoo Boise is getting into the Christmas spirit, offering free admission Saturday for their annual Claus and Pawse vent.

Each year, the zoo hosts two free admission days for the public. This one includes a visit with Santa Claus.

Hundreds of Treasure Valley families took advantage of the opportunity. Just 30 minutes after opening, the zoo saw a thousand people come through the gates.

"It's really important; it is a way we give back and this is our first free day since our new Gorongosa exhibit opened," Zoo Boise director Gene Peacock said. "Folks who haven't had a chance to come and see it yet, this is a chance they could do that."

The Gorongosa exhibit opened this summer.
