Ada County Highway District commissioners approved the Idaho Transportation Department's plans tonight to reconstruct the Cloverdale overpass that was severely damaged in a recent firey car crash on that took the lives of four people on the I-84 freeway.
Upgrades will include added lanes, new sidewalks, and accommodations for a future expansion of the Interstate.
The project is set to take 12 months to complete, according to Nicole DuBois, Public Informations Specialist of the ACHD.
"Because of this terrible tragedy now we're in this situation where that structure needs to be replaced anyway, " Dubois tells us. "So we're going to widen the road at the same time and kind of just get it all done at once."
For safety reasons, the Cloverdale bridge will be closed to traffic and pedestrians until the construction has completed.
