COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) -- The city of Coeur d'Alene is preparing for its popular Ironman race, but for the first time in 14 years it won't be a full Ironman triathlon in June.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that the city is hosting an Ironman 70.3 event, often called the half-Ironman, on June 26 and the full Ironman will be held Aug. 21.

An Ironman 70.3 combines a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride then a 13.1-mile run.

Race organizers say the half-Ironman is popular because more people are willing to do the 70.3 and some people may use the half-race to train for the full Ironman later in the summer.

Coeur d'Alene officials have signed a deal to hold a half-Ironman in June and full event in August for the next five years.
