BOISE, Idaho — Collab Salon is hosting an event, called "Care for Hair", that helps cancer patients with hair loss.

"Care for Hair" is dedicated to helping those patients by offering free services like hair styling, haircuts, and shampooing.

Diana Barela, co-owner of Collab Salon, lost her 11-year-old niece to a rare childhood cancer and saw the pain that her niece struggled with the loss of her hair. Barela is also a volunteer at St. Alphonsus' infusion room, and sees the same pain in the cancer patients that she talks with.

Barela and her business partner, Kayla Morris, have decided to host "Care for Hair" as a Valentine's Day gift to those struggling cancer patients. They hope patients can experience an enjoyable hair treatment rather than the pain that comes with cancer treatment.

“Through Care for Hair, we want to offer a friendly and inviting atmosphere where people undergoing cancer treatment can come and relax," Barela says. "We want to pamper them with complementary services, but we also hope we can help them feel comfortable and positive about themselves, giving them additional strength and confidence.”

Barela, Morris and the stylists at the salon understand the relationship people have with their hair, and see the pain that patients struggle with when they lose their hair.

The event will be held February 9th, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., but you will need to make an appointment with Collab Salon by February 2nd.

To make an appointment, you can call (208) 996-3551.
