TREASURE VALLEY, Idaho — May is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Awareness Month and Dutch Bros Coffee is inviting the public to join them in the fight against the disease. Drink One for Dane is an annual fundraiser supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
On May 10, more than 330 Dutch Bros locations in seven states, including Idaho, will donate proceeds from every drink sold to support MDA and families affected by ALS.
This is the 13th year MDA and Dutch Bros have partnered together. Drink One for Dane raised $1.3 million in 2018, and the goal for 2019 is to raise a record-breaking $1.5 million.
One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the MDA to support ALS research. It's all in honor of the company's co-founder, Dane Boersma, who passed away from ALS in 2009.
"Our co-founder, Dane Boersma, was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and actually lost his life to it in 2009. And so we launched Drink One for Dane day about 13 years ago just to raise awareness for a disease that is very under-researched and not a lot of people know about it," said Shayna Randall, an employee at Dutch Bros.
