CALDWELL, Idaho — The Caldwell School District decided Monday night to begin the year with remote learning, after consulting with Southwest District Health Department and learning the community is experiencing substantial levels of viral spread. They are in the "red" category.

Students will begin online-only schooling August 27 and continue until at least October 2. The district will re-evaluate next steps on September 21 and make a decision about how to continue based on the level of community spread at that time.

The superintendent of the Caldwell School District, Dr. N. Shalene French, says this initial phase of online learning will be very different from last spring; students will learn new material, and it will be graded.

The District says it will provide more information soon about device pickup, meals and more.

Monday's meeting was streamed live on Facebook. You can watch it in its entirety here.
