BOISE, Idaho — Monday is day one of the State Department of Education's Family and Community Engagement (FACE) conference. The two day conference features national and regional speakers.
This year's lineup includes Elizabeth Smart, who spoke as part of the first school safety symposium. At only 14 years old, Smart survived one of the most publicized abductions in United States history. Now, she travels the country as an advocate for legislation to keep children safe.
“Believe that child, believe that kid that’s telling you whatever it is that they’re telling you because it’s a really big deal for a child to come forward and to tell you something that’s happening," Smart said.
The conference is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Galaxy Event Center.
