The Emmett High School head football coach issued an apology Tuesday for failing to report when images of Weiser High School plays were texted to him.
Head Coach Rich Hargitt paid a $750 fine for not reporting that hand-drawn plays were sent to him via text in July, according to Emmett High School Principal Wade Carter. The plays were in the back of an Emmett scout book, which was found on the school's practice field Sept. 4 before Weiser and Emmett played their game.
According to a news release from Emmett School District, the school sent a letter of apology to Weiser High School today.
“We accept full responsibility and accept the punishment handed down from the District 3 Board of Control. After conducting an internal investigation and meeting with our head coach, it was clear he was remorseful and realized the gravity of the error. We feel confident nothing like this will ever happen again,” the letter said, according to the district.
An internal investigation was conducted by Carter and Athletic Director Gavin Watson, according to the district, which was reported to the Board of Control for District 3. Watson also sent an email to all athletic directors in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference explaining the situation, according to a news release.
It is not currently known if Hargitt was disciplined because the issue is considered a personnel matter.
