EMMETT — The Emmett School District is canceling all classes at its schools on Friday, December 20 due to an outbreak of the Influenza B virus.

Officials with the district tell 6 On Your Side that the cancellation is an effort to approach the outbreak with due caution and to avoid a more massive spread of the disease.

The Centers for Disease Control currently ranks Idaho as a state with "widespread" flu, as of the week of December 7.

According to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, 94 people died from the flu in the 2017-2018 flu season, but 90 of those were people 50-years-old and older.
