Exciting changes are on the horizon for the rock climbing community in the Treasure Valley

BOISE, Idaho — The rock climbing community in the Treasure Valley can look forward to two new gyms that will open sometime at the beginning of this year.

The Commons Climbing gym is on the Boise Bench and hopes to open sometime in February while the Vertical View in Meridian could be open by the end of January.

"I think people should be really psyched it is something the Treasure Valley has never seen," said Clinton Colwell one of the owners who is working hard to get the Commons Climbing Gym open. "There will be two new modern climbing facilities that offer both climbing and bouldering."

But even with these exciting changes on the horizon, we still found people out climbing on the black cliffs in the middle of winter and that also makes Boise unique in the rock climbing world.

"I come from Missoula and there is a definitive climbing season where you don't climb between October and march," said Colwell. "The cool thing about Boise is I think those aree the best months to climb."

Rock climbing is another example of a lifetime sport that thrives in Boise and pretty soon there will be two new places that come help people get into the sport.

Here is the story of the Commons Climbing Gym that we put together back in October.
