MERIDIAN, Idaho — Fasten up your seat belts and loose cargo, or it might cost you.
Idaho State Police Troopers are warning drivers that failing to do so is not only against the law (Idaho Code 49-613), but it puts you and other drivers at high risk for a serious, if not fatal crash.
Troopers tend to see a slight increase in loose cargo crashes during the warm summer months as drivers are hauling more items in trunks or trailers. Trooper Hoxie tells Idaho News 6, “we’ve had fatal crashes we’ve investigated that have had salt blocks from a trailer go through a windshield to hitches coming loose and coming through a windshield as well.”
Trooper Hoxie adds that if an unsecured item from another vehicle strikes yours, call *ISP477 to report it.
