TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) -- The number of college students in Idaho showing interest in law enforcement careers is on the decline, and officials worry it may lead to vacancies in police departments across the state.

The Times-News reports enrollment in College of Southern Idaho's law enforcement program has dropped by nearly half in the past two years. Idaho State University and Northern Idaho College have seen decreased participation over the last year.

In response to the declining numbers, the directors of the law enforcement programs at CSI and ISU are looking to attract more candidates by cutting the 11-month patrol program down to only one semester.
