The pond at Settlers Park in Meridian was filled with Rainbow Trout Saturday.

It was just in time for the Fishin' with the Commission event that's meant to introduce kids to the sport.

Ada County Commissioners were on hand to offer some tips, along with Idaho Fish and Game.

"They help them take the fish off the hook, show them how to clean it, help them clean the fish. They'll even show them, instruct them how to bait their hook," said Commissioner David Case, Ada County District 3. "This is something, especially for the younger kids, that when they start off as a sport, it's something that sticks with them for life."

There is one more free fishing opportunity with lessons coming up.

Idaho Fish and Game's trailer will be set up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11 at McDevitt Pond.
