NAMPA, Idaho — Whether it's getting a latte before work or grabbing a cappuccino with a friend, coffee shops are a staple of the Treasure Valley. One local coffee chain is making some changes to its ownership after more than a decade.
Lisa and Kevin Meyers decided to take on a new adventure and open up Flying M Coffee.
"We opened the Boise store in 1992," Kevin Meyers says.
With Kevin's love for coffee and the couple witnessing the Seattle coffee boom, they decided to open a place of their own. Which led to creating a local coffee chain with three different locations; Boise, Nampa and Caldwell.
"It just seemed like it would be a fun thing to do. We never knew what path we would take or that we would ever be in business this long. But it has been a lot of fun," Lisa Meyers says.
Now, the couple is onto their next adventure, retirement.
"It's letting go after we've invested everything we could," Kevin says. "Its bittersweet," added Lisa.
The Boise and Caldwell locations have been under ownership by previous managers. Now, about 14 years after the Nampa location opened, they passed ownership to their daughter Chloe and her husband.
"We're really excited to continue on the honor and tradition. It was amazing growing up and watching my parents follow their dreams, and I'm excited to get to carry it on and make it my own," Hanson says.
Hanson also says she's excited to carry on her parent's coffee shop legacy and continue to bring a favorite local cup of joe to the community.
"I think this has been a cornerstone for the downtown Nampa community since its opening. My parents have done an amazing job creating an environment of acceptance and love, and they celebrate diversity." I'm really honored to carry on that tradition and make this space really special for our community," Hanson says.
Hanson and her husband just had a newborn baby, and she says maybe when she's older, she will also take on the tradition of owning Flying M.
