A former Eagle High School teacher and basketball coach has pleaded guilty to sexual battery of a teenage student.

It was part of a plea agreement he reached with the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jeff Ranstrom, 32, of Star was originally charged with five felonies -– including rape, sexual battery, and sexual exploitation of a child.

Investigators say the crimes all involved the same victim –- and that Ranstrom had what they called a “lengthy relationship” with her that stretched over a six-month period last year.

Ranstrom resigned from his position with the West Ada School District back in September.

He later turned himself in to the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

Ranstrom coached the Eagle boys’ basketball team for the past two seasons.

The team competed in the 5-A tournament last year.

With the guilty plea, Ranstrom faces up to life in prison.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced January 28th.
